Jay Dunlap

Jay M Dunlap is the Head of School, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and a classroom teacher at Renaissance Learner Academy, a GT/2E/SEL focused high school, in San Jose, CA. He holds CA Professional Teaching and Administrative Services credentials.


Mr. Dunlap has dedicated his 30-year career to educating culturally and neurologically diverse students. His experience is rooted in a wide range of educational settings in the USA including K-12 public, private, rural, and urban schools. Since 2010, he has dedicated his professional practice to exploring, developing, and implementing effective school-based solutions for neurologically diverse populations. Renaissance Learner Academy is the culmination of decades of research, design, and practice. It is a school explicitly designed for the twice exceptional learner.  


Mr. Dunlap is passionate about creating, designing, and leading schools. While continuing to teach his own students in the classroom, he makes time to mentor teachers and administrators. 


Internationally, he has worked in Oaxaca Mexico and Wuhan China. Nationally he has worked supporting schools in Philadelphia, Chicago, Memphis, and Baltimore. His home base is California where he has taught, led, and supported schools in Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Redwood City, and Modesto.
